School Year Programs 2016-17

Programs are available for ages 4-8. Programs run September through March.

Early Birds (ages 4-5)

Littlest-NaturalistsLet our professional teaching staff provide your child with an appreciation of the natural world through active play, outdoor activities, crafts and other learning experiences.  Children may sign up for one or all sessions.

Cost per session: $12  VLM member, $20 non-member
When:  Fridays or Saturdays
Time: 9:30-11am

Registration closes at 4 pm the day before each class.

January 6 or 7 South Polar Express
Explore the amazing animal life at that other pole!

January 27 or 28 Now You See It, Now You Don’t
Discover the many ways animals can hide in plain sight.

February 10 or 11 What’s for Lunch?
Plants, meat, or a bit of both? Learn how animals are adapted to the foods they eat.

February 24 or 25 Plant Power
Investigate the different parts of a plant close up and see how all the parts work together as a “plant factory”.

March 10 or 11 Toads, Frogs, and Polliwogs
From egg to tadpole to grown-up frog, follow these fascinating changes that take place in the amphibian world.

Saturday Science Explorers (ages 6-8)

SatScienceNatural science adventures in learning for early elementary kids.

Cost per session: $20  VLM member, $28 non-member
Time: Saturdays, 2-4:30pm

January 7 Amid the Squid
Take a close-up look at weird and wonderful, squishy and not-so-squishy, marine invertebrates.

January 28 Cetacean Superstars
Explore the world of the largest creatures on the planet – the whales.

February 11 Shark Sleuths
“Dive” into the world of sharks and decide – are they really the bad guys?

February 25 A Tropical Trek
Take a tour of the rainforest from treetop to forest floor.

March 11 Awesome Amphibians
Check out the variety and life styles of amphibians from Virginia and beyond. See why they are truly awesome animals!
