Specialty Tours

Get a closer look at the Virginia Living Museum’s animals and exhibits with these tours conducted by members of the Museum’s Curatorial staff year round. Also consider Summer Only Tours.

Behind-the-Scenes Tour

Join a small group of visitors for a truly unique experience as you learn about how the Museum operates from the inside out! Take part in a fish feeding at one of our many habitats. Have your individual questions answered by a member of our knowledgeable curatorial staff in a behind-the-scenes tour catered to your interests. See areas of the Museum where daily visitors are not allowed.

Tours last 45 minutes. For ages 7 and above. No strollers. Limited wheelchair access. Please wear flat shoes.
Cost: VLM members $10, non-members $12 plus museum admission. (Price increase begins Jan. 1-members $12, non-members $14)

Every Animal has a Story Tour

Wednesdays at 3pm 

A special chance to walk the outdoor trail at the end of the day with our senior animal care staff & learn why & how our animals ended up with a new life at the living museum. Injured, orphaned, born in captivity or rescued as an illegal pet, every animal does have a special story & this is our opportunity to share it with the public.

Tours last 45 minutes.

Cost: VLM members $10, non-members $12 plus museum admission. (Price increase begins Jan. 1-members $12, non-members $14)

All About Otters Tour

A special chance to meet one of your favorite animals at the museum up close & personal. Learn what they eat, how they eat and how the Virginia Living Museum trains them to cooperate during veteranarian visits and enrichment. Tourists will assist with an actual training session and gain admittance into restricted areas where only staff dare to venture!

Tours last 45 minutes.

Note: No wheelchair access to otter building or habitat.
