Butterflyweed

Asclepias tuberosa

Height: 1-3 feet
Light: Full sun
Soil: Does well in dry conditions. Don’t overwater.
Bloom Time: June – September
Flower Color: Orange or yellow flowers

Very drought tolerant, this gorgeous orange-flowered milkweed attracts Swallowtail and Monarch butterflies as a nectar source, and is a host plant for Monarchs.

Butterflyweed does well in sun or partial shade, growing to a height of one to three feet. It is easily propagated from seed or cuttings and brings a bright splash of color to any naturalized garden setting. This plant is also listed in several publications as having medicinal properties. There are several cultivars available in the trade and care should be taken when transplanting them since they have a deep taproot.
