Together we connect people to nature through educational experiences that promote conservation.

Animals in Action
The Virginia Living Museum is home to more than 250 species of animals found in Virginia including reptiles, mammals, birds and fish. We provide a sanctuary for orphaned, non-releasable or injured animals.
Plants in Action
The Virginia Living Museum has one of the largest displays of native plants in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Geology in Action
The Virginia Living Museum’s Underground Gallery is a journey back through Virginia’s ancient past, a past that has created a rich and colorful present.
Planetarium in Action
Travel the universe in the digital state-of-the-art Abbitt Planetarium Theater. The 71-seat planetarium theater, renovated and upgraded in 2008, offers a fully digital simulation of the sky.

The Virginia Living Museum is a certified Virginia Green attraction committed to minimizing its environmental impacts by preventing pollution wherever feasible in its operations.

April is waning, and so are the Winter stars. Taurus the Bull, once high over just a few months ago, is now barely visible for an hour after sunset. Try looking for his V-shaped face in the west just after the Sun goes down. If you can find it - congratulations! You are viewing an open cluster of stars called the Hyades. These stars were all born together from a single cloud of gas and dust. But now, they are aging, and the cluster itself is beginning to collapse as some of the stars on the outer edge of the grouping drift away, escaping the gravitational influence of the cluster.

This week, we're going nuts over gray squirrels! 🐿️ These agile acrobats of the treetops are usually seen in hardwood trees and thrive in urban parks, nesting with their adorable pups in spring & summer. 💐☀️Their dependence on trees for food and shelter underlines the importance of conservation, especially amidst threats like deforestation. In the winter, some state areas provide nest boxes and raw peanuts for them to stay cozy and well-fed!🪹🥜
