School Year Programs 2017-18

Early Birds (ages 4-5) and Saturday Science Explorers (ages 6-8)  will NOT take place Fall 2017.

Play Date with Nature

Make a “Play Date” with your little naturalist. Connect to your child and nature with this interactive outdoor program for children ages 4 – 10. Parents are active participants – along with their children – in activities that VLM educators will model then help supervise.

Please note: The purpose of the Play Date programs is to help parents connect their children to creative play and learning in the out-of doors.  Therefore, parents will be active participants – along with their children – in activities that VLM educators will model, then help supervise.

Time: Tuesdays 10-11am and 1-2pm, Fridays 10-11am

  • January 9 and 12 – Day and Night Skies
  • February 13 and 16 – Birds
  • March 13 and 16  – Plants

Advance registration is required for all Play Dates. Call 757-595-9135 or register now.

Cost: Free for VLM members, included in museum admission of $20 adult, $15 children

Play Date with Nature – Take a Field Trip

Make a “Play Date” with your little naturalist ages 4-10 off-site at Newport News Park.

  • Tuesday, April 17  9:30-11:30am
  • Friday, April 20  9:30 – 11:30am

Advance registration is required for all Play Dates. Call 757-595-9135 or register now.

Cost: Free. Only registration required.

Location:  Newport News Park

NEW – Digging into Nature

Come join our newest family nature adventure hosted by the Virginia Living Museum. During each program, we will follow a Nature Quest activity series, developed by our partners at the Children & Nature Network, that uses nature as a backdrop for dramatic and imaginative play activities. The activities are geared for families with children ages 4 – 10, but children of all ages are welcome. Information on starting your own Family Nature Club will be also provided.

Time: Saturdays 9:30-10:30am and 1-2pm

“Dig into Nature”  with your little naturalist ages 4-10, off-site at Grandview Nature Preserve.

  • Friday.  May 4, 10am-12pm and 1-3pm
  • Saturday, May 5,  10am-12pm and 1-3pm
