Summer Camps 2017


Ages

Week-long camps are offered for ages 4 through grade 5.

Activities

Museum educators help children explore nature and space through hands-on activities, touring through the Museum and touching live animals.

Reservations

Reservations may be made in person, or by phone, using American Express, Discover MasterCard or Visa credit card or through our secure online form.

Details

Class size is limited to 10 – 12 children, so sign up early! A minimum enrollment is established for each class and must be met at least five days prior to the first class meeting. You may cancel up to one week before the class unless otherwise stated, and receive a refund less a $10 handling fee. After that time, no refunds can be made. If the Virginia Living Museum cancels the program, a full refund will be issued. Members receive a discount on all classes. Join now.


For Pre-K children Ages 4-5

Children must be four years old by the first class meeting. All camps are five days,  9:30am-noon.

Cost: $98 VLM members, $125 non-members.

Creatures of Confusion

How do you tell a moth from a butterfly? How are whales and fish different? Come investigate a different pair of confusing critters each day.

Dates:  June 5-9 (FULL),  June 12-16, June 19-23 (FULL), June 26-30 (FULL), July 10-14.


Nature’s Changes

From rain to the sunshine, winter to spring, high to low tide, baby to adult – we will learn about the many amazing changes that occur all around us in nature.

Happy Habitats Around the World (Full)

From the equator to the poles, we will explore deserts, rainforests, oceans, and other habitats while learning about the plants and animals that live in them.

Is anyone out there?  Do aliens exist?  Can we talk to them?  Let’s do some scientific alien-hunting and find out!

Are you always asking questions? Do you like learning about the natural world? Become a scientist for a week and explore five exciting careers in the natural sciences.

Comets and asteroids and meteors…and more!  Join us as we study all kinds of rocks from outer space.

CSI: Earth

Strange things are happening on our planet: communications breakdowns, power outages, and more.  Could the culprit be from outer space?  Become a Cosmic Science Investigator and find out!

Let’s explore the science behind some classic myths and viral internet phenomena to find out what’s really possible.  Be ready for some amazing scientific experiments that might even involve blowing some stuff up.  Come find out what’s real…and what’s busted.

Junior Naturalists (Full)

Come explore the diversity of habitats that surround us during this full-day field-based camp. We will visit forests, marshes, and the Chesapeake Bay in our quest to learn about the plants and animals of Tidewater Virginia.
