Celebrate gardens and gardening with activities for the whole family – a 50th anniversary event.

Special guest, award-winning garden photographer and author Saxon Holt will present a lecture at 1:30pm. Holt lives and gardens in Northern California where he has found the climate for plants and adventuresome gardeners to be a constant source of inspiration. His work and his books increasingly focus on the relationship between gardens and the land, seeking a sustainable aesthetic that can enhance both gardener and the earth. Holt’s e-book Good Garden Photography was awarded the 2015 Gold Award from the Garden Writers Association as best overall garden book published in 2014.

  • Designing Native Plant Gardens 1:30pm – A Photographer’s Viewpoint shows native plant gardening can be just a beautiful as traditional gardening once the gardener understand some basic design principles and understands the garden site.

Learn to create or enhance your backyard habitat by landscaping with native plants. See displays by the Virginia Peninsula Orchid Society. Tour the Museum’s Holt Native Plant Teaching Garden and the Children’s Learning Garden and go behind-the-scenes at the Holt Native Plant Conservatory.

There will also be children’s garden activities and crafts.

Time: Noon-4pm
