Dr. Jerre Johnson returns to the VLM to showcase materials from the recent Mastodon dig in York County – plus additional ice-age specimens from the VLM collections. Join us for his interpretive program in the Lab. Crafts and activities round out this day of ice age learning! Dr. Johnson, geology professor emeritus, The College of William and Mary, has been excavating the site of the second known mastodon skeleton found in Virginia. The site has produced dozens of bones and even a pair of tusks from an animal that became extinct about 12,000 years ago, at the end of an ice age.
Cost: included in museum admission
Time: Specimens on display 10am-4pm, lectures by Dr. Jerre Johnson 12:45pm and 1:45pm
