NASA Birthday Celebration and International Observe the Moon Night Star Party & Laser Light Night
NASA’s 100th Anniversary/VLM’s 50th Anniversary Event
We have a lot to celebrate so our Star Party/Laser Light Night for October is packed with great exhibits and activities from NASA including a guest speaker.
Jim Batterson, retired NASA Langley Research Center engineer, will speak at 6pm on “The History of NASA in Hampton Roads.” From 1980 until his retirement in 2008, Batterson was a flight controls engineer at NASA Langley where he was Head of the Dynamics and Control Branch, and later, Deputy Director for Strategic Development.
At 5pm games and displays begin, including the opportunity to build your own Lunar Rover and take it for a test drive. Touch down on the Moon and create a lunar lander and take it for a test flight, experience Rover Race activity and more!
We will honor the International Observe the Moon Night and have telescopes out beginning at sunset (weather permitting).
Choose among four shows:
- Virginia Skies 7:30pm
- Hypnotica 8:30pm
- Dark Side of the Moon 10pm
- The Vision Bell 11:30pm
