Graphics/Design Manager

Job Description: Graphics/Design Manager
Status: Part-time, Hourly, 24 hours or less / week (on-site)

Department: Marketing

General Statement of Duties
The Graphics/Design Manager is responsible for creating current, exciting graphic design for Museum wide marketing and managing the Museum graphic request process. The Design Manager assists with generating consistent positive branding and exposure. This position recognizes the capacity to achieve greater results by integrating skilled volunteers, leveraging their diverse knowledge and skills. This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

 Degree in graphic design, graphic art, or related field.
 Passionate about current design trends and practices. Able to bring ideas to life through cutting-edge and modern design concepts
 Strength in visual concept development for marketing and advertising communications
 Master of industry standard software Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator) including designing, editing and managed production-ready files
 Knowledge of WordPress, Constant Contact and Altru software a plus.
 Excellent communicator and creative thinker able to work with multiple levels of staff.
 Proven organizational, time management and multitasking skills.
 Experience as still and video photographer a plus.
 Must have a proven ability to work within a changing environment to meet deadlines, multi-task, collaborate and communicate effectively with a diverse project team.

Duties and Responsibilities
 Be creative! Be a positive enthusiastic representative of the Virginia Living Museum.
 Create all Museum graphics. Lead all graphic design efforts. Translate Museum brand goals into meaningful communication campaigns.
 Manage Museum graphic request process, providing design and direction from concept development through final delivery of all print and digital advertising (signage, newsletter, print ads, internet ads, social media, museum website, e-blasts and flyers.)
 Maintain Museum brand guidelines and strategies for and with both internal and external team members. Ensure delivery of a consistent identity and message based on the Museum mission across all mediums, digital, print, etc.

 Act as design/creative advisor for other departments as needed. Serve as brand manager in creation of logos, invitations, posters, banners and other related design projects.
 Share duties to maintain/update content on museum web site and keep abreast of web innovations with Media/Promotions Manager.
 Develop executive and board presentations as needed
 Photograph museum activities and events as needed for advertising and public relations.
 Recruit and oversee minimum of 2 volunteers and 2 interns to support graphic efforts.
 Other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Requirements
 Ability to work occasional evenings/weekends.
 Must be able to hear and speak clearly.
 Physical requirements include medium work, exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
 Must be able stand for extended periods of time and move about on foot to accomplish tasks.
 Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, and utilize repetitive motions.
 Must have close visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle and perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer, and extensive reading.
 The position is subject to environmental conditions for activities occurring indoors and outdoors.
