Job Description: Maintenance Technician II
Status: Full Time, Hourly, 37.5 Hours / Week (on-site)

General Statement of Duties
The Maintenance Technician II is a mid- level position responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain facility equipment, grounds and museum vehicles according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes. Performance supports the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives, both during and after business hours. This position recognizes the capacity to achieve greater results by integrating skilled volunteers and leveraging their diverse knowledge and abilities. The position reports to the Facilities Manager.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bondable with valid driver’s license
- 3 years’ experience in commercial, industrial or institutional maintenance experience
- Ability to respond to after-hours emergency calls
- Proven capabilities with all tools and power equipment necessary in facilities maintenance
- Possess good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work with limited supervision. Creative and organized problem solver with ability to lead and help prioritize multiple projects.
- Outgoing, able to greet and assist guests as needed
- Basic computer skills
- Must be able to read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Must be able to remain calm, make sound decisions and provide clear direction in crisis situations.
- First Aid/CPR certified or willing to become at museums expense.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Be a positive, enthusiastic representative of the Virginia Living Museum
- Enhance the Guest Experience by keeping the enterprise in top shape through maintenance repairs on plumbing and mechanical systems, HVAC systems, museum vehicles/golf carts, animal enclosures, lights, bulb replacements, painting, woodwork, refinishing, etc.
- Keep SDS sheets and system up to date. Lead alarm system functions, safety codes and procedures. Takes the lead in ensuring the maintenance shop is kept neat and safe. Develops/oversight on safety protocol for handling of power tools and equipment.
- Work with Facilities Manager in planning for adverse weather and ensures museum adverse weather supply procedures and equipment are in place and operational.
- Keeps an inventory of supplies needed for daily maintenance and routine repairs. Provides the Facilities Director with monthly list of items needed to be procured.
- Keep museum property clean of debris to include parking lots and picnic areas
- Be on call for spills/carpet clean up when custodial staff is unavailable
- Assist in setup/takedown of in house special events
- Perform other duties assigned.
Essential Job Requirements
- Ability to work occasional evenings/weekends
- Must be able to read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Must be able to use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.
- Physical requirements include medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally,
and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. - Must be able stand for extended periods of time and move about on foot to accomplish tasks.
- Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, and utilize repetitive motions.
- Must be able to pick up/remove bodily waste
