Naturally Speaking Series Welcomes National Geographic Emerging Explorer

May 16 Talk by Speaker David Gruber presents ‘Glow in the Dark Sharks’

 

 

Newport News, VA (May 10, 2019) – Virginia Living Museum’s May Naturally Speaking Series welcomes David Gruber, National Geographic Emerging Explorer. Gruber will present his talk “Glow in the Dark Sharks: Perspectives from Marine Creatures” Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 6:30pm.  The talk is free and open to the public and attendees are asked to RSVP at: https://thevlm.org/events/museum-events/

 

David Gruber has been recognized as a National Geographic Emerging Explorer and is professor of Biology at City University of New York, and a Invertebrate Zoology research associate with the American Museum of Natural History.

There are a surprising new range of sea creatures that transform the blue ocean light into amazing greens and reds. Hear from David Gruber, a marine biologist on his journey in search of biofluorescent sharks, seahorses, sea turtles and more. Learn about his covert world of biofluorescence and how these light-up creatures could illuminate a new understanding of our own brains.

Join the Virginia Living Museum for light hors-d’oeuvre with a cash beer/wine bar starting at 6 pm followed by our speaker at 6:30 pm with Q and A to follow. SHARK ZONE, the Museum’s summer exhibit will also be open for guests that evening. The Virginia Living Museum is open daily from 9 am- 5pm. Museum admission is $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 3-12. All daytime planetarium showing are free for Museum members and $4 plus Museum admission for non-members.
