Bobcat Secrets – Be a Keeper

Meet one of the more secretive and fascinating mammals found in Virginia! Bobcats are adaptable, predatory members of the North American cat family. The only wild feline still found in the state, they are common in the Dismal Swamp and the mountains of Virginia and are rarely seen in other parts of the state. Our girl came to the Museum from a wildlife rehabber in North Carolina after being discovered as a pet in the Midwest.

Unfortunately, she needs continual care on her paws due to an improper surgical procedure. That is how she came to the Museum’s sanctuary where she will now live a long, healthy life while educating her community. Help pay for her meals, enrichment, and care at the Virginia Living Museum! Come meet her at your personal ‘Behind the Scenes’ event for a group of 6 with the VLM Animal Care Staff. Learn how to support this incredible animal and prepare her diet and treats for the week. Your name will be listed as the 2018 Bobcat Annual Support Sponsor on the boardwalk exhibit.

Annual Care: $2,200
Opening Bid: $1,000

Red Wolves – Roam with the Endangered

Meet the most endangered mammal in North America, the Red Wolf. The red wolves currently housed at the VLM are part of a Federal Species Survival Plan. Historically, red wolves were seen all over the southeastern United States. However, by 1980, the species was declared extinct in the wild. Red wolves are being reintroduced into the wild to prevent extinction of the species and to help restore the natural ecosystem.

Two red wolves, a father and a son born at the VLM, currently live at the Virginia Living Museum sanctuary. Both are challenged with intestinal abnormalities and need continual medical support. Support enrichment and medical care for this endangered animal at the VLM today! Enjoy a personal ‘Behind the Scenes’ tour (group of 6) to learn about their habits, care, nutrition, and status in the wild, and prepare their daily diet. Your name will be listed as the 2018 Red Wolf Annual Support Sponsor on the boardwalk exhibit!

Annual care: $2,500
Opening Bid: $1,000

Go back in time with the Loggerhead Sea Turtle

The loggerhead Sea Turtle is one of the largest reptiles currently found on earth. The fact that only 1 out of 100 may survive to adulthood is remarkable. The Loggerhead is a threatened species. All sea turtle species face the danger of heavy exploitation for their meat, eggs, shells, and oil, as well as dangers of becoming entangled in shrimp nets, gill nets, and on the hooks of long lines. They have survived environmental events including changes in climate, sea levels, and the extinction and evolution of millions of other organisms. They are constants in a sea of change.

Loggerheads can be found in Virginia’s waters during the warmer months and are the most common sea turtles to venture into the Chesapeake Bay. The Museum is part of a Head-start program. Therefore, our turtle will be tagged and released to the wild once the Museum has helped it grow to be a strong and resilient turtle able to fend for itself. Help pay for meals, enrichment and care for this threatened animal! Climb above our 32,000 gallon tank for a feeding during your personal ‘Behind the Scenes’ tour (group of 6). Your name will be listed as the Loggerhead Sea Turtle 2018 Annual Support Sponsor on the Noland Chesapeake Bay Aquarium.

Annual care: $3,500
Opening Bid: $1,500

You Otter Support Moe!

Your generous gift will support the care, feeding, and training of our Museum male mascot, Moe. Moe came to the museum after a citizen realized he would not make a good house pet after all. Yes, Moe was raised in a family home, riding in a little red wagon as a young pup. Our Curatorial Director had to jump into his new large aquatic home and help him swim uninhibited. Come meet the fine fellow at your private ‘Behind the Scenes’ event (group of 6) with our Animal Care staff. Learn how to “target train” this incredible animal to receive veterinary checks and prepare his diet and treats for the week. Your name will be listed as the 2018 Annual Support Sponsor on the outdoor exhibit!

Annual care: $2,000
Opening Bid: $850

You Otter Support Molly!

Your gift will support the care, feeding, and training of our Museum female mascot, Molly. Molly joined Moe last year from the West Coast. She needed a home and Moe was more than happy to welcome her! Come meet this lovely lady at your private ‘Behind the Scenes’ event (group of 6) with our Animal Care staff. Learn how to “target train” this incredible animal to receive veterinary checks and prepare her diet and treats for the week. She eats more than Moe, so this one will require a bit more work on your part! Your name will be listed as the 2018 Annual Support Sponsor on the outdoor exhibit!

Annual care: $2,000
Opening Bid: $850

As guests of Preservation Hall, you’ll be entitled to “skip-the-line” status. Simply check in at the door and avoid the long line.

Preservation Hall’s evening performances are recognized as some of the world’s last “pure musical experiences,” presenting authentic, traditional New Orleans jazz, played by the city’s finest. Experience the living legends that won Preservation Hall the Zagat award for ‘Best Appeal’ for 2009 New Orleans Nightlife.

This iconic American institution was established in 1961 with the intention of preserving this uniquely American art form and providing some of its earliest practitioners the opportunity to earn a living performing the music they had pioneered and kept alive for so many years. There is no bar service, air-conditioning, or other modern updates, Preservation Hall is a truly unique experience for kids and adults alike. In the words of Louis Armstrong: “Preservation Hall, now that’s where you’ll find all the greats.”

Commander’s Palace Restaurant
Enjoy a jazz brunch or 3-course dinner with wine pairing for two, including tax and gratuity. Every Saturday and Sunday, the jazz brunch features a Cajun and Creole-inspired menu with both traditional and unique breakfast items. As you bite into one of their Creole poached egg dishes or Bananas Foster Pancakes and take a sip of your Ramos Gin Fizz or Bloody Mary, live jazz musicians fill the room with “good, happy jazz”.

If you feel like dancing, join the “second line” that often forms behind the band, a passionate and joyful New Orleans tradition! Or you can choose the 3-course dinner with wine pairing any night of the week, which starts with their World Famous Turtle Soup and ends with Creole Bread Pudding Souffle.

This beloved Garden District restaurant is New Orleans at its finest. Owner Ti Martin, daughter of Ella Brennan of the famous New Orleans restaurateur family, carries on the tradition and spirit that have given Commander’s Palace its magic and charm since 1880.

Brandon Bower Music

Hailing from Augusta, Georgia where funk and soul seems to run in the water, Brandon Bower dove in head first, sunk to the bottom, and came back up with an undeniable force. He draws from such inspirations as fellow Augustan, the Godfather of Soul himself, Mr. James Brown. In fact a local radio personality said it best “If Elvis Presley and James Brown had a child, it would be no other than Brandon Bower”. He captivates audiences with relentless passion for the sake of the message. He has honed his craft of performing and writing through ten years of gigging and touring.

During that time he has shared the stage with James Brown and the Soul Generals, Jennifer Nettles (currently of Sugarland), Colonel Bruce Hampton and The Code Talkers, Tim Reynolds, Chris Barron of the Spin Doctors, Guitar Wizard Monte Montgomery, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, John Michael Montgomery, Twila Paris, and the list goes on. In conjunction with performing, Brandon is a distinguished songwriter of over 50 originals and has co-written with Charles Kelley, frontman of the chart topping trio, Lady Antebellum.
