Taste of Virginia Tours

Fill your belly and your brain with the Virginia Living Museum’s “Taste of Virginia” series- an educational experience combined with the foods, wines and flavors of various regions of Virginia. These culinary tours are available all year long. In November & December we are also offering 2 “mini-tastes,” which will be great add-ons to our popular “Star of Wonder” holiday planetarium show.


Year Round Programs

All year long, these adult tours satisfy your thirst for knowledge along with your hunger for Virginia’s regional fare…

 Taste of Virginia- The Mountains & Piedmont Region

This is a great way to explore Virginia’s geology. Hold & examine rocks & real fossils that are millions of years old. Next, you’ll meet & greet some live animals that call the Mountains their home. Your favorite part of the day just might be the food- a variety of wines & cheeses from the Piedmont region will give you a taste of what our mountain area has to offer.

Time: 2.5 hour program
Group Size: minimum of 10 people
Cost: $40 per person

Taste of Virginia- The Chesapeake Bay

blue-crabSpend a day discovering the Chesapeake Bay from the comfort of the Museum.  You’ll also explore life under the bay by taking a close-up look at the survival strategies of aquatic animals like blue crabs, oysters & flounder. Start your experience with a 3 course sustainable seafood lunch featuring stuffed flounder & Chesapeake Bay area wines.

Add to your experience and marvel at clear “night” skies in the Abbitt Planetarium and discover how sea captains used the stars to guide their voyage. (additional $5 per person – subject to availability)

Time: 3 hour program
Group Size: minimum of 10 people
Cost: $50 per person

 

Taste of Virginia- Coastal Plain/ For the Birds!

cardinalDiscover the fascinating lifestyles of animals that take to Virginia’s skies and migrate through the coastal plain. Meet live native birds and get a close-up look at their unique adaptations. We’ll also introduce a sampling of native Coastal Plain plants and talk about their importance to historic and present day Virginians. This “egg-cellent” program starts with a very special lunch featuring homemade egg salad & quiche.

Time: 2.5 hour program
Group Size: minimum of 10 people
Cost: $30 per person

Sugar & Spice Talk

Enjoy cookies & hot cider as one of our award winning educators speaks to you about the “science of spices”- discover the history & culture of some favorite seasonal spices like nutmeg, ginger & cinnamon.

Time: 45 minute program
Group Size: minimum of 10 people
Cost: $12 per person, add $3 per person to include a spiced wine tasting
