Smooth Blue Aster

Symphyotrichum laeve, syn. Aster laevis

Unassuming at first, smooth blue aster hits its stride in the fall, mushrooming into a wide cloud of beautiful pale blue to violet flowers.

Smooth, blue-green waxy foliage and stems that are often purple tinted.

Smooth blue asters attract butterflies.

  • Height: 1-5 feet
  • Light: Sun to part shade
  • Soil:Moist soil, but is very drought tolerant. Can also handle seasonal flooding.
  • Bloom Time: August – October
  • Flower Color: Small blue flowers with yellow disk centers
  • Foliage: Smooth, blue-green waxy foliage and stems that are often purple tinted
