Benefits

The Virginia Living Museum offers a comprehensive benefits package for regular, full-time staff and their eligible dependents, which includes medical and dental insurance (cost-sharing involved), as well as term life insurance, long term disability insurance, flexible spending accounts and a 403 (B) tax sheltered annuity plan.

The Museum offers paid vacations, sick leave and holiday pay to all regular, full-time staff. The amount of the vacation to which an employee is entitled depends upon length of service from anniversary date.

Unpaid Internships

College students interested in gaining knowledge in the specific fields are invited to inquire about internships at the VLM.

We offer unpaid semester-long internships, providing the opportunity for hands-on experience in:

  • Animal Care
  • Aquarium Care
  • Development
  • Volunteer Services
  • Veterinarian Care

Students will gain practical experience for entering the job market. For more information, email the Volunteer Department or contact our Volunteer Office at 757-534-7428 or view the Internship positions.

Applicants for Aquariums, Herpetology and Veterinarian Intern must submit an unofficial copy of their transcript with current GPA visible.
