Virginia Living Museum Names New Lead Veterinarian

Newport News, VA (December 4, 2018) – The Virginia Living Museum is pleased to announce Dr. Sarah Childers as Lead Veterinarian. Dr. Childers is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where she received her B.S. in Animal Science and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Childers will join the Museum Curatorial team on a part-time basis. She will work directly with Museum staff and a team of local veterinary specialists who support the care of the Museum’s extremely diverse animal population.

“Dr. Childers’ experience in diagnostics and surgical procedures, along with her passion for exotic and zoo animal medicine will contribute greatly to the Museum’s Animal Welfare program and overarching conservation mission,” said Executive Director Rebecca Kleinhample.

Dr. Childers has completed training positions at the Tennessee Aquarium and the Knoxville Zoo. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society. She is also employed by the Peninsula Animal Referral Center.
