Guest Blogger: Behind the Scenes with Parker L.

 October 9, 2020
Hi, my name is Parker and I’m almost 10 years old. I was invited to a Behind the Scenes Tour to meet the brand new bobcat, who is now known as Sarge. Getting to go behind the scenes was unlike anything I could’ve imagined. We got to see some other animals too like deer and turkeys. Now, I know that the deer and turkeys are open to the public, but we got to go right next to the fence and see the deer up-close. I even got licked by a deer!
Something I learned about Sarge is that he isn’t like any other normal bobcat – he actually has a pretty sad backstory. Unfortunately, he was in an accident which resulted in him getting his right, front leg amputated. However, I noticed that even though Sarge has a disability, he can still jump around 11-15 feet with ease. In about 3 or 4 years, I will be able to volunteer at the Virginia Living Museum, and I am excited to finally be able to help out and see the animals more often. Also, I am looking forward to seeing Sarge in his new habitat once it is finished. Overall, it was a very exciting, fun, and educational journey that I am happy I was able to go on.

Heads Up!

The Virginia Living Museum will open at 11AM to the public today to allow staff to get operations up and running after extensive power loss last night.

This will NOT interfere with regular summer camp operations, camp will begin at 9AM.

Thank you for your patience!
