The Otter Side: A Behind-the-Scenes Otter Encounter

Ready to see the otter side of the Virginia Living Museum? This small, exclusive experience takes you behind the scenes for a rare look at how our animal care team works with one of our most playful and popular species.

Guests will visit the area where animal diets are prepared and learn how keepers use training and enrichment to keep our otters mentally stimulated, physically active, and ready to explore. You will also head to the observation deck for a chance to help feed the otters and watch their energetic personalities up close during feeding time.

Good to Know

Ages: 6 and up. Children must be accompanied and closely supervised by an adult for the entire tour

Please dress for the weather. A portion of the experience may take place outdoors and includes walking to the otter exhibit.

Encounters are subject to change based on the otters’ health, wellbeing, and daily behavior.

With only a handful of spots available each week, this is one of the most limited and personal animal experiences at the Museum.

Because this experience takes place in working animal care areas, photos are not permitted, making it a truly special moment to enjoy in person. To make the experience even more memorable, each group will receive a small otter painting created by the otters themselves to take home.

Heads Up!

The Virginia Living Museum will open at 11AM to the public today to allow staff to get operations up and running after extensive power loss last night.

This will NOT interfere with regular summer camp operations, camp will begin at 9AM.

Thank you for your patience!

Wild Explorations
