Butterfly Haven (Outdoor)

Open during summer months

Step into a realm of natural beauty and prepare to be surrounded by a kaleidoscope of butterflies at the Butterfly Haven! Nestled next to the Virginia Garden and just outside the Wason Education Center, the Butterfly Haven is an immersive experience for all ages.

Within the exhibit, there’s more than just the beauty of these pollinators to behold. The Butterfly Haven also supports vital conservation efforts! By preserving pollinating species like the Monarch Butterfly, we’re contributing to the protection of our delicate ecosystem. We’re also helping raise awareness about the challenges that Monarchs face, including habitat loss due to deforestation in Mexico, extreme climate fluctuations in North America, and the growth of herbicide-based agriculture.

Entry to the Butterfly Haven is free with museum admission.

Heads Up!

The Virginia Living Museum will open at 11AM to the public today to allow staff to get operations up and running after extensive power loss last night.

This will NOT interfere with regular summer camp operations, camp will begin at 9AM.

Thank you for your patience!

Wild Explorations
