Every year we take time to recognize our amazing volunteers and the contributions they make to our museum. Although, we do our best to Thank our volunteers throughout the year – National Volunteer Appreciation Week is a special week-long event.

Points of Light – a national organization that helps connect organizations with willing volunteers – created National Volunteer Appreciation week in 1974. This week is about celebrating the contributions of current volunteers as well as encouraging and inspiring others to become involved in their respective communities.

“Every day, Americans carry forward the tradition of service embedded in our character as a people. And as we celebrate National Volunteer Week, we embrace our shared responsibility to one another and recommit to the task of building a more perfect Union”.

President Obama, April 12th 2015 – National Appreciation Week Proclamation.

Everyday our volunteers come together to serve the Virginia Living Museum because they share the same passion for conservation and education. We are proud of the long history of volunteerism established at our museum and are forever grateful for the continuing tradition of community service and volunteerism at the VLM.

Thank you to ALL our amazing volunteers – you make us stronger.
