So long fine friend

Sadly, this past weekend, the VLM had to say goodbye to one of our old friends. Our veteran foxy red lady passed away due to complications from a cancer that quickly spread. The female red fox, affectionately known as Dandelion, or Dandy, to the animal care staff,  was 13 years old and had come to us from a local rehabilitator.   Red foxes typically live to be 5 to 8 in the wild, and up to about 15 years in captivity.

Here is a nice representation of the beautiful red gold coat that many red foxes have.

So long, golden girl.  We’ll miss you very much.

Heads Up!

The Virginia Living Museum will open at 11AM to the public today to allow staff to get operations up and running after extensive power loss last night.

This will NOT interfere with regular summer camp operations, camp will begin at 9AM.

Thank you for your patience!
