Virginia Living Museum Invites Community to Meet the Turkey November 25

Turkey Pardoning will be streamed on Facebook LIVE at 11am

Newport News, VA (November 23, 2020) – The 11th Annual Turkey Pardoning will be streamed via the Virginia Living Museum’s Facebook LIVE on Wednesday, November 25 at 11am.  Visitors will also be able to meet the turkeys from noon until 4:30pm with enrichment activities at the top of each hour.  Also, this November, the Museum hosts the Fill the Canoe Food Food Drive to benefit the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.

In the tradition of the annual Presidential Turkey Pardoning, Newport News Vice Mayor Saundra Cherry will lead a virtual ceremony celebrating the long and healthy lives of the VLM Turkeys. The ceremony can be viewed at 11am on the museum’s facebook page.

The male turkey named “Hokie” and the hen named “Doris” will both be pardoned. The turkeys will be summoned with a turkey caller and fed cracked corn as part of the official pardoning. The event will usher in the holiday season at the Museum.

Throughout the day, guests can enjoy seeing turkey items from the Museum’s extensive collections and a craft activity on the main floor.  But the true celebrities of the day, Hokie and Doris can be viewed from noon until 4:30pm on the outdoor trail. Turkey presentations from Animal Enrichment Coordinator, Britt Sorensen will take place at the top of the hour at noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. All guests both VLM members and non-members are asked to reserve their tickets for this special day at: https://thevlm.org/events/museum-events/

Bring a non-perishable food item to “FILL THE CANOE” in the Museum lobby for the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank. All individuals who bring a can will receive a coupon for a free canned soft drink or coffee with their Wild Side Cafe purchase.  Give a Can…Get a Can!

VLM Museum members are also welcomed to start their holiday shopping early. From November 27 until December 4, members will receive 30% off store wide at the Wild Things Museum store.
