Virginia Living Museum Welcomes New Education Director


Newport News, VA (December 12, 2017) – Nicole N. Burns has joined the Virginia Living Museum (VLM) as Education Director.

Nicole Burns was previously employed as the Outreach Education Supervisor and a Senior Outreach Instructor at the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation in Williamsburg, VA.  Prior to her work at the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, Ms. Burns was the External Programs Manager at the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore, MD, where she was responsible for 86,000 youth contacts.

She is a graduate of Simmons College in Boston, MA, where she doubled majored in Biochemistry and Physics with a minor in Mathematics. Nicole Burns is a noted speaker, has analytical and research experience with Johns Hopkins and the University of Pennsylvania, and will be bringing these skills to the education department at the VLM.

“Nicole’s accomplishments and experience will enhance STEM programming and are a distinct advantage for the Museum.  Her passion for green chemistry, biochemistry, and physics will stimulate new initiatives for the Museum,” stated VLM Executive Director, Rebecca Kleinhample.

Nicole attended the 2014 Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) Annual Conference in Raleigh, NC, and joined the National Education Outreach Network (NEON).  She was awarded funding to attend as part of the Diversity and Leadership Fellowship and successfully completed the ASTC Diversity and Leadership Fellows program.

Heads Up!

The Virginia Living Museum will open at 11AM to the public today to allow staff to get operations up and running after extensive power loss last night.

This will NOT interfere with regular summer camp operations, camp will begin at 9AM.
