It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas…

…except it isn’t.  Well, at least not to me, not yet.

I don’t know about you, but my whole year feels off.  The pandemic kind of robbed us of summer, and now, nothing feels right.  It can’t possibly already be late November, with Thanksgiving only days away!  How can it be fall when we haven’t had summer yet?

But the sky tells me it is fall indeed.  The stars of winter are already beginning to climb higher into the sky earlier and earlier in the evening.  Before we know it, Orion will be visible in the east after sunset.  Taurus already is.  And despite the forecast high in the 70s here in Virginia for Thanksgiving Day, it is beginning to get pretty chilly at night!  So the holiday season really is just around the corner.

Since 1965, we have presented holiday programs in the planetarium theater in one form or another.  We’re going to safely continue that tradition this year as well!  Opportunities will be limited however, so you might want to pick up your tickets in advance to make sure you get a seat!

This holiday season, the Virginia Living Museum will be offering a holiday lights nature walk in the evenings on the weekends between Thanksgiving and New Year’s.  On eight special Friday and Saturday nights, beginning this Friday,  we will also be offering limited capacity showings of Mystery of the Christmas Star and Laser Holidays!  You can purchase your tickets for these events in advance on our website.

Please note that the follow restrictions are in place at the Abbitt Planetarium for everyone’s safety:

  • Our theater is limited to 20 patrons at a maximum
  • Every other row in the theater is closed
  • A minimum of 3 seats must remain empty between family groups
  • All guests, staff and volunteers over the age of 4 must wear masks in the theater at all times
  • Seats and surfaces are sanitized between programs

We hope you’ll be able to join us for these special holiday programs.  And we wish you all the best for a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season!
