Taking Action Together!

“Do your little bit of good wherever you are, it is those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world”

A single act of service is inspiring, but often, a collective effort to make a difference is truly moving. Our volunteers showcase a unique diversity of skills and talents that positively impact the museum and its staff – but more importantly – our guests. Each day guests come to the museum eager to learn about our exhibits, our animals and our special events. It is, therefore, essential that we have a diverse group of eager volunteers willing to apply their skills and talents in all areas of the museum’s daily operations. While a single act of volunteerism is important – a group of dedicated volunteers moving towards one goal brings our museum to life and can inspire others to do more!

While I am reminded each day of how much is accomplished through the team work between staff and volunteers – my favorite is Reptile Weekend!

The Virginia Living Museum strives to stimulate knowledge and awareness as well as appreciation of the living world through education – and Reptile Weekend is no exception! Our knowledgeable staff, aided by willing volunteers, hopes to showcase the exceptional beauty of native and exotic reptiles as well as dispel negative associations often attributed to these amazing creatures! Once again, we will draw on the talents of some of our volunteers to help educate the public, specially trained volunteers to handle the animals, and experienced volunteers to help plan the event. Without the help of many, we are unable to meet the needs of guests – it is truly the collective efforts of our staff and volunteers that make our museum such an amazing place to visit and learn!
